here is my article that was chosen along with several others about giving back on a popular fashion site i follow!!! ^_^

WARMING UP:

I actually do a lot for many different people but the thing I enjoy the most coincides with my fave hobby; crocheting. There are literally tons of charities all across the country that gladly take handmade goods and distribute them to those in need. A familiar sounding one is Caps for Chemo, where people make hats and send them in to chemo patients so they have something warm to cover their heads while in treatment. Another charity collects squares to stitch blankets together for our soldiers across the sea that don't have loved ones here at home.

When I was in college, I was a part of a local knitting and crocheting group at my friend's church. Every Christmas we put up a Christmas tree and we covered it with everything wearable that we made over the year. At Christmas, the goodies were boxed up and given to a local charity like The Battered Women's Shelter. When I graduated college, I decided to keep doing that and I mailed the church my box of goodies I'd made over the year.

My mom's church had a new youth minister about a year ago and he helps out people in South America that are extremely impoverished. I decided that on his trips I would send down the goodies I'd made for those in need. I figured out that I didn't have to send a box back to my college town but that locals could use my help.

Eventually the youth minister left my mom's church and I joined my dad's church instead. I've found out what I really prefer. They have a homeless ministry where they go and help out homeless people that they see while driving around. I make blankets with all of my leftover yarns and I also make hats and scarves as well for my minister to pass out. The only hard part is that police are chasing these poor people down and any of them caught holding a sign are taken to jail and then thrown right back out on the streets. They need to be shown kindness. I know that the homeless need everything they can get and I know that with a blanket they can have something warm and know that somewhere, someone thought of them.

what do you think??? ^_^*
