Getting Closer...
That nice little infection that has everyone coughing, sniffling, fever, aching has attacked me too. For the first time since high school, I got put on a nebulizer. It did work though, better than I thought and it was nice to leave the doctor's in less pain. My theory is at least I'm getting this out of the way before christmas/my birthday/new years.
One thing about my family on mom's side is that we are list makers. No seriously. We make lists about everything. But one I actually find that everyone can use is to make a list of everyone you need to buy Christmas presents for. Then next to their name, write what you've purchased or want to find for them. It's much easier having something to follow and it means you won't forget anyone. (Sorry Brandon ^_^*) I'll show you mine but I'm not putting what I've actually found or am making because I want everyone to be surprised on Christmas!:
FRIENDS:
Whit: bought and in progress (that means I'm hand making it!)

This helps quite a bit! For those of you near a dollar store, or 99cent store go there for your wrapping needs. They will have the cheapest deals on paper rolls, ribbon, bows and tags. If you're like me, you also snag the goodies right after Christmas where you can get everything for 75% off and hoard it for the next year!
These hershey's kisses are a current obsession right now. Don't worry you can get a one pound bag of the kisses at any store for about $3. They are so good! If you like mint chocolate, make yourself a cup of hot chocolate and drop a candy cane in it! The candy cane melts and leaves your drink minty! It's very good especially when you're trying to get rid of those excess candy canes.
Once I've made all my gifts I will post some pictures of them and let you see! I'm very proud of what I've done so far =) Please read my blog about water and please share it!!! Also leave me a comment and I will be glad to answer back! =)

Christmastime helps
Firstly, if you know the people you are giving gifts to, and they have no problems with sugar, then give cookies! Cookies are simple to bake and there are thousands of good cookie recipes online. The ingredients are also cheap and can be purchased anywhere. You can get fancy with the wrapping if you like. Oriental Trading Company has pretty bags that come in packs of 12 that are inexpensive and the receiver can use them again! They come in a variety of colors or you can choose to get a solid color pack. If you don't want to go that route, then here's another simple tip. Colored saran wrap! At this time of year you can find green and red at the grocery stores and then what you do is buy some ribbon in the gift wrapping section. If you can spend a little bit then pick up some adorable tins. Hobby Lobby and HEB have some great ones. If you don't want to bake cookies, then candy or fudge recipes also are numerous! No matter who you are, people always appreciate food.
Next, for those that can knit or crochet, Walmart may have knocked down their crafting areas but they still have the best prices for yarn. They may not have a huge selection, but they do have enough colors and types that you can find what you need. Hats, scarves, hair ties, socks, the possibilities are endless!
For a bit of fun, I adore the dollar section of Target. They have great smelling body products like soaps, lipglosses and lotions, socks for guys and girls, pet toys, candy, Christmas decorations and wrapping needs. They change this section constantly to adjust to the season, but this is a joy for me. They even have little goodies for children too. You can select small gifts for everyone this way!
Why all the fuss? Well, it's a bone of contention right now between my siblings and I over this. They want to draw one name and get one person a $20-$30 gift. I don't want to do that because I want to give everyone something. I'd feel awful for only getting one person instead of all of them something. That's just who I am as a person and that's why I'm writing this entry. For those that want to give small gifts, you can! I actually have tons of ideas and if you'd like my help, write a comment here, with your budget and the people you need goodies for (parents, siblings, boss, friends, etc). I'd be glad to help!
Lastly, help one another. Food pantries and homeless shelters are the busiest this time of year. They need food or money or time. Whichever you can donate is greatly appreciated. My way of giving back is using my crocheting skills to make blankets and hats. This speaks volumes and let's these people know that someone out there took the time to make them something. People need to be loved. This is the best time of year to show it (though it should be shown all year!). If you want to donate yarn, I'd be glad to turn it into something great! I use everything b have, meaning there are no leftovers. This makes for interesting looking .stripes and colors but to someone who is cold, lonely and homeless, this means the world to them. There are many things you can do to help. Donating money or time to charities. Donate clothing to whichever organization is close (Red Cross, Salvation Army, a Christian ministry, homeless or battered women's shelter, the list goes on...) Donate food to shelters or even volunteer and cook at the Ronald McDonald house. Offer to read stories to the children's ward at the hospital. Make clothes or blankets and donate them (I have a good list of charities such as caps for chemo and afgans for afghans- blankets for American soldiers who have no family). There is so much we can do.
Good luck with your presents and have a happy holiday season!

water
For me, its just aggravating, knowing what's going on and feeling completely helpless. My hope is that for those of you reading this, you'll pass my entry on and help spread the word. Maybe this Christmas we can give the gift of clean water to as many people as we can.

Fashion and gift tips
Fashion advice for the day: Yesterday, I wore a knee length grey chiffon dress, with black sweater leggings, black ankle boots and a black leather jacket. Wearing the black leggings with black boots elongates my legs, and this technique works with anyone. If you match your tights to your shoes you will give your body the illusion of more height. All of you know I'm 5'3" so more height is greatly appreciated, even though it's just an illusion! The leather jacket balanced out the girliness of the chiffon to give a chic touch. I wanted the focus to be on the outfit as a whole, so I kept my accessories simple, with small black white and silver owl earrings, and 2 silver rings on my left hand. My hair was in a simple base of the neck ponytail and my makeup was very understated. You never want to have conflicting or competing looks going on. Everything should compliment one another.
My disappointment was Maybeline express finish nail polish in "Pretty in Purple". The color is absolutely beautiful but it chips really quickly, and that is after two coats, plus a top coat (and allowing proper time for all layers to dry).
Right now I'm currently working on a ton of Christmas presents. I'm crocheting most of them, as I just can't spend the money I want to on everyone. This depresses me, but I'm making due with my talents and resources. I thought about baking cookies, but everyone likes something different so that would be rather hard. I do have budget friendly ideas though! Walmart has these great little gift sets for $5 that include soap, lotion and either lipgloss or a scrubbie in some very good smelling flavors. We girls love to smell good, so this is something you can get for the ladies in your life! For guys, Kohl's has these adorable gifts: boxers and matching collectable tin. I saw Batman, Superman, Tobasco, Mountain Dew and a few others. They are on sale for $8.40 and it's getting 2 gifts for one! Some of the boxers come with a drink coozy. Those are always handy and something guys actually use too!
Good luck and if there is something you want me to try or write about, send me a comment!

okay i promised finished results of the scarf and here it is! It's a design by me (please no stealing the idea it is copyrighted!) of a double ruffle edge. It's quite warm too. worst day ever
Tomorrow i'm supposed to go to ren fest, but the weather says its going to rain all day. PLEASE NO! This is my fave day of the year, i think especially after what i went through last night that i deserve it! I'm praying that there is no rain (at least until i'm on the way home!) so that way I can go with my handsome man and have a good time.
My man loves to tease me about my obsession with fashion magazines but ya know what? I won! I'm serious! Glamour had a drawing for 5 mini laptops and i was one of the lucky peeps! It's an msi, silver 10 inch piece of awesomeness. I'm so excited I can't begin to tell you. I'm not sure which one i got, but it's silver and looks like this! I love my magazines!

Skirt
That's godiva showing her approval <3
Here is the skirt! now the corset I found at Traders Village and I decided to do a more gypsy themed costume for ren fest (i said gypsy but NOT belly dancer!). I hand stitched the handkerchief skirt and I wanted to show you a rough idea. I'll have my white undergarment like seen in the previous journal post with my pink gown and I'm going to borrow a friend's black skirt to fit underneath the purple one, but here's what I've got so far... What do you think???
This is also a current obsession... I love this show! You wouldn't believe how some resteraunts are run! Thank the good Lord for Ramsey trying to fix them up!

Funky Birdie
Funky Birdie by Margaret Walker featuring gothic jewelry
I love the owl socks! This is my fun n crazy outfit, full of warm fuzzies. The owl tote i added and it is great for shopping and since it's reusable, you're being eco friendly.
Striped Sweetie
Striped Sweetie by Margaret Walker on Polyvore.com
This is based off artisan Socks striped tights. I love the layered look so I worked with the classy black and white color scheme. The pearl top can also come in grey. I also saw celebs having 2 or more statement rings on at a time hence the owl and bow rings.
Geisha Love
Geisha Love by Margaret Walker featuring gothic jewelry
This is based off Artisan Socks Geisha socks! I was so happy to find matching Geisha Earrings! I wanted everything else to be classy and fashionable but simple so that the socks can make their statement. The dress is a sale item from H & M and costs $12.73 USD.
Neutral Beauty

I added the owl ring and Charlotte Russe flats and hat for a bit of glam and the owl earrings for a touch of vintage class. This outfit is my favorite!

people...
Normally, I'd apologize for ranting, but this rant needs no apology.
I LOVE this show! Wednesday nights at 9pm I'm in front of my tv watching the boys chase after tornadoes. This is my favorite reality show. Plus, they really are trying to get information so they can have more of a warning to get people to safety, especially if a mile wide EF5 is lurking...

That is the back of my pink Celtic gown I made. The whole thing is handsewn (took me forever!) in a pink and yellow plaid fabric. I was so proud of this thing too. I thought i'd put this up to hold you over while i'm working on the purple outfit =)

amazing installation artist
Orientation went well, but I won't be able to sub til mid November *sigh*. I just want to be back in the classroom.
I'm working on a scarf that is different than any I've designed before, but i'm barely even a third of the way there. I did finish another blanket for needy people so i'm excited about that. I'm in a hurry to make another one and its at least a third of the way done too. The holiday season is the hardest for people and I'm doing my best to help! If you want to help please let me know! I'm all for giving crocheting lessons and if you have yarn you want me to make into blankets or caps I'd be glad to! =)
I'm so excited for ren fest! It's that time of year! I'm not wearing the gown I labored so hard over unless it gets colder. Right now it's in the 90's and my Celtic plaid gown is just waaaaaay too hot! I have skirts and a purple corset i'm going to wear this year and I will post pics when I get to go. =) That pic above is the infamous pink plaid gown! I did not use a machine that sucker was all by hand! There are tons of people that gave me props at ren fest last year and the year before when i wore it since it was pink. lol one lady even told me if i bought any of her jewelry she'd give me a discount because of it!

updates!
Secondly, I was reading that one of the Victoria's Secret models jumps rope for 10 minutes each day and that it burns the same calories as 45 minutes of running. I was thinking hey I could do that... but after 3 minutes my lungs were screaming SLOW DOWN! Guess I'll have to work up to it... I'm so disappointed in myself that I'm that much out of shape and at the same time wondering how in the world I jump roped as long as I did when I was a kid. Will I make it to the 10 minutes? I'll keep you updated!
thirdly, I'm still working on the baby yarn needy person blankie, but I'm also designing a ruffly lavender scarf. I love ruffles and I'm determined to make this work! I've seen some great scarves out there that I just want, but figure that it'd be more satisfying to make it myself. So far, nothing too exciting, I'm just working on the foundation of the scarf, but I will post pictures once I'm done!
Fourthly, I'm freaking out about being a part of Houston's First Fashion Week. I'm helping a designer, and we've added my crocheting to some of her clothes and accessories, turning them into fresh, classy, subtly sexy goodies. I'm so nervous to see models going down the catwalk wearing the things I've made. It's intense! The show is Friday night, and I'll be sure to post about it!
I'm still heartbroken that there is no H&M clothing store here. Texas doesn't have any; it's just not fair... Forever XXI is opening in England though, I'm quite curios to see how that will come about.

I give a Hoot!
I love trying out new marinades. Lea and Perrins White Wine and Herb Chicken Marinade was quite good! I let the chicken soak in it for about 7 hours, then cooked it for 45 minutes on 350 degrees F. It went rather well over a bed of rice too! If you're already a fan, i say go for it! Let me know what you think!
Don't let the amazon price fool you! Go to Walmart and pick up a tube of this goodie! I'm not gonna lie, i have pretty thick eyebrows that like to twist and bend out of shape. A quick swipe of this over each brow and it keeps those stubborn lil hairs at bay all day! It's only $5, so give it a try! Clear mascara is also known by hair and makeup artists for taming frizzies too; just swipe it along your part but just use a little bit and only go down about an inch or so.
This is another miracle worker! It's hard to have curly hair but to have dandruffy curly hair? AUNGH! I've been using this for about 2 weeks now and the flakes are gone, there is no itching and my hair feels much smoother. This is definitely a good buy! At stores it's between $3-$5 a bottle.
I also am smart enough to know that my hair will adjust itself to a shampoo after awhile and it won't work as well any more. I rotate this amazing shampoo with the Garnier dry scalp and my hair is so much healthier and softer. After the first wash, i could already feel a difference in my hair. My doctors have always said that Dove and Neutrogena are the two best out there and I believe it! This bottle was only $3 at Walmart.
*whew* That was a good update! I'm working on Houston's first ever fashion week! I'm freaking out a little bit! I'm helping a friend of mine who will be one of the 20 designers showcased over 2 nights. The catwalk is 200 feet long! For anyone fashion savvy you know how unusually long that is! I am helping create and make the designs right now, and then during the night of the show I will be backstage dressing the models. How amazing is that? Tickets are $45, it's October 14 and 15th, Tranquility Park, 6:30pm!

My newest creation of the moment? Those are my cousin's horse's baby teeth. The story is that her vet told her since she was artistic she could make something out of them. She's more of a 3D kinda girl, whereas I am heavily into the crafting and landscape painting. She brought them to me and I made them into earrings for her vet. LoL I can't wait to see what the vet has to say! I'm sorry the picture is so blurry, that's with the macro setting and no flash.
God bless!

Also... Taqueria Arandas off Mason Rd and I-10??? It's REAL Mexican food and it is soooo good. The salsas are addicting and my cheese enchiladas were very tasty! I'm definitely planning on going back; next time to try the pork, onion and cilantro soft tacos!

Veet, It Does Work!
I feel rather old today. My baby brother graduated high school this morning. I remember when I graduated both high school and college. It's going by so quickly I feel I can hardly keep up sometimes. I'm wondering if, when I become certified, if I will be participating in my student's graduations. I'd more than likely cry at every single one; I'm emotional like that. I'm that same person that cries at weddings too!
As for the product of choice today, I was thinking about summer time. What do women hate to do but have to do it especially during the summer? Remove the leg hair! I don't always feel like shaving and I was curios about hose hair removal creams. I tried nair and that failed me big time. I have thicker hair, and the instructions say to leave it on there if you need to for up to 10 minutes and I did. My hair refused to obey and needless to say, I was back to the good ol' Venus Embrace. I did decide to try again, and this time to my surprise a product worked. I've put up a link, thanks to amazon, so you can see my miracle worker. I knew to leave it on for 10 minutes and then step into the shower. The one thing I wasn't counting on was the water pressure of my new showerhead. It took off the cream immediately. Here I am thinking NOOOOOOOO!!!!! I use the lil' pink scrapper the best I can even though the cream is gone. Some of the hair is gone. I wake up a few hours later and find that its all gone and my legs are smooth. I'm quite impressed! I will definitely be buying this again! It's also a great idea for when you're traveling and don't want to deal with razor blades and the risk of cutting yourself. Try it and let me know what you think!

bandzed? pun intended
That entertains me alot more than it should. It's kind of like the new pogs. Remember those? The lil milk cap game where you stacked them and hit them with a slammer to see how many you could turn over? We used to trade and collect those back when i was in elementary school.I had at least a hundred of them and i even had cool bright and glittery cases for them too.I These bracelets though seem alot cooler, even the high school kids and college kids have been seen sporting them. I may not understand the coolness factor of it but when my 8 year old niece handed me a silly band that was in the shape of an owl i couldn't say no. These are so cool! Thanks to amazon for the image. They go on your wrist but when you pull them off they go right back to whatever shape they are, i.e.: a fish, dragon, bandaid... Why must all the cool trends come out once you're old?
Sad huh?

shoes!
You're looking at me funny, or understanding me completely. For one who speaks Japanese, these are perfect! I would love to wear these! Alas, the money supply is short thanks to a very small paying job and tons of bills. I am a wishful thinker, hoping one day those shoes shall be on my feet! The patterns remind me of bento boxes, chop sticks, and umbrellas. Another dream is to actually visit Nippon itself. I've been eyeing pictures of Himeji Castle from textbooks too long and would prefer to see it in person, rather than a photograph. The link to the left at least can show you a glimpse of what I'd like to see for myself. For those of you that have been there, I'm a bit jealous!
Jaa, mata ne!

Do the Wave
Also I really want to read Molly Ringwald's new book, plus there is a book about Kate, Prince Will's girlfriend and that has my curiosity piqued as well. Both are on sale at Target but alas, rent comes first! What are you reading right now?

article published!!!
WARMING UP:
I actually do a lot for many different people but the thing I enjoy the most coincides with my fave hobby; crocheting. There are literally tons of charities all across the country that gladly take handmade goods and distribute them to those in need. A familiar sounding one is Caps for Chemo, where people make hats and send them in to chemo patients so they have something warm to cover their heads while in treatment. Another charity collects squares to stitch blankets together for our soldiers across the sea that don't have loved ones here at home.
When I was in college, I was a part of a local knitting and crocheting group at my friend's church. Every Christmas we put up a Christmas tree and we covered it with everything wearable that we made over the year. At Christmas, the goodies were boxed up and given to a local charity like The Battered Women's Shelter. When I graduated college, I decided to keep doing that and I mailed the church my box of goodies I'd made over the year.
My mom's church had a new youth minister about a year ago and he helps out people in South America that are extremely impoverished. I decided that on his trips I would send down the goodies I'd made for those in need. I figured out that I didn't have to send a box back to my college town but that locals could use my help.
Eventually the youth minister left my mom's church and I joined my dad's church instead. I've found out what I really prefer. They have a homeless ministry where they go and help out homeless people that they see while driving around. I make blankets with all of my leftover yarns and I also make hats and scarves as well for my minister to pass out. The only hard part is that police are chasing these poor people down and any of them caught holding a sign are taken to jail and then thrown right back out on the streets. They need to be shown kindness. I know that the homeless need everything they can get and I know that with a blanket they can have something warm and know that somewhere, someone thought of them.
what do you think??? ^_^*

exhausted!
the weather here has been something else. it snowed again! and now its back up to like 60 something. yay houston, if you dont like the weather wait 5 minutes. lol
i feel like a complete idiot. i signed up to help my church and was so worn out and tired from work last night i slept right through it. AUNGH. last night was awful. i was on teh road driving til a lil after 8 then i switched over to manager and much chaos. I had to save labor so i had to send people home and i still had late orders. my poor driver was out til 12:15. That left me inside to do all my closing manager duties plus clean the entire store, including all the dishes and such. We finally got everything clean and we left at 1:40 am and i got home after 2. I never have to stay that late! =( but at least it was extra time on teh clock that i needed!
I also subbed yesterday and that was just great. I dont speak a word of spanish but thats where they needed me and i felt so bad for the kids. they kept asking me for help and i couldnt figure out anything. they were on a shorter bell schedule with a pep rally and all the teacher left them was a quiz. after they finished they were telling me stories, it was great. they had me laughing the entire time. Its days like that taht keep me sane and on track for me becoming a teacher myself!
best thing about easter candy? CADBURY CREME EGGS! *JOY* they have the orange creme ones my favourite! *MAJOR HAPPY DANCE*
im currently reading teh time travelers wife. i dont want to see the movie until ive finished the book.
ive seen gamer and law abiding citizen both of which were more entertaining than i thought theyd be. zombieland was funnier than i thought too.
i cant believe its already about to be march!
*psst click on the ads pls k thx*
my cat is in love with my bath towel. i put it on my couch and she started going crazy rubbing her head and face all over it. i didnt want to take it away from her it was pretty funny to watch her so i just got a different one from my cabinet. cats are highly entertaining. especially when they're a bit on the "special" side.
i'm sorry i havent updated this more often like i thought i would. i always have the ideas and such to write some interesting comments and then i get distracted by ideas and off i go. I'll try to be better!

new food and books
i'm reading a great book called change of heart by jodi picoult about religion and teh death penalty adn redemption its throwing me for a loop i tell you what! i'm not through with it yet but i'd definitely already recommend it. Shes the author of my sister's keeper (which was a movie that came out a few months back with cameron diaz). ive read that one adn another book by her called The Pact, about teen suicide and wow that was really good. I lost a cousin and i lost a friend of mine (both whom died teh same way) and i was just trying to see how or maybe why they would do that. These are must reads though!!!
we have a new chinese buffet called star and OMG AMAZING! like so much love for this place, i cant even begin to tell you. I love it so much! they have great crab puffs and spring rolls and OMG best fried rice EVER. Its a new happy place. lol.
I'm working on more goodies, and i just got to hand off two blankets and a hat in hopes they will go to people that need them. ^_^ i'm glad my hobby can help people. I'll be glad to teach anyone who wants to learn to crochet!

product rave herbal essences has some amazing products, ive got conditioner, lave in conditioner and a gel that work wonders, it also leaves your hair smelling great which the guys appreciate as well! ;)
also great sermon today at church and i wanted to comment about it. people gather together to fight a common enemy but when teh enemy is vanquished, then there isn't anything to keep those people together any longer. What about the people across the world banding together for causes such as cancer, aids, and other diseases? If we find the cures then what will keep most of us together? Scary to think about huh?

Current obsession: essie's new color of nail polish mint candy apple! Its gorgeous! It also happens to be one of my absolute fave colors too, so i'm sure that helps. lol This color is highly sought after, but it can be found at Ulta stores and online! I found mine under my christmas tree! It goes on smooth and i barely needed 2 coats.
